The sixth Gufadanda Climate Day was celebrated on Thursday at Gufadanda, a tourist destination located in Melamchi Municipality-9, located at an altitude of 2,250 meters above sea level.

Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya was the chief guest at the program organized in collaboration with Melamchi Municipality on Thursday.

The program was attended by ministers of the provincial government, local people's representatives, climate experts and stakeholders.

The program discussed the increasing natural disasters due to climate change. The speakers mentioned that a common vision and long-term program are necessary for climate protection.

Melamchi Municipality Chief Aitaman Tamang said that he has put forward a plan to develop Gufadanda as a tourist destination where one can observe the mountains along with tea gardens. He also said that a 6-point concept paper on climate change was also submitted to Chief Minister Baniya.

He recalled that the celebration of Climate Day began with the '10-point declaration' issued by the then District Coordination Committee in 2075 BS and expressed his commitment to continue it.

Chief Minister Baniya said that climate change has become a global challenge and said that it should be taken seriously. He also pledged that the provincial government would manage the necessary budget for the construction of the Melamchi-Gufadanda-Panchpokhari road.

The program, which was held with the participation of locals, featured cultural dances and tableaus presented by students from various schools, along with an environmental message, making the program attractive.
