The Area Police Office, Makawanpur, arrested seven porters with 53.5 kg of marijuana on Wednesday. The arrested persons gave the names and addresses of the marijuana dealers, and the police went overnight and arrested two marijuana dealers.
The arrested persons are Suraj Narayan Raya and Sudhir Lal Mahato of Agarwa, Sarlahi, who were living on the inner road of Kabilasi Municipality-8. Police have said that Raya and Mahato were arrested based on the statement of Hom Bahadur Adhikari, who was arrested with marijuana.
All the seven arrested on Wednesday were only porters carrying marijuana. They said that they brought the marijuana with the lure of getting a wage of Rs 1,500 per kg after taking it to Kabilas in Sarlahi. They boarded the bus near Lothar with the marijuana wrapped in plastic bags. The police had arrested seven people with 53 kg 570 grams of marijuana while stopping the bus and checking it.
They also had a packet of marijuana wrapped in red plastic in their bags.
Four of the arrested people are from the same family. Six of the arrested people, including three young women, are from the Chepang community.
A team from the Area Manahari Office stopped a bus (Ba Pra 01-006 Kha 7701) coming from Chitwan to Hetauda and searched it, and marijuana was recovered from them. Rai and Mahato, who were arrested on charges of being marijuana dealers, have given statements to the police that they traded marijuana to support their families.
All seven arrested people have said that they had brought marijuana to Rai and Mahato before. The police have extended the remand of all the arrested people in the drug case from the Makawanpur District Court and further investigation is underway.
