Three members of the House of Representatives from Chepang, an indigenous community in Nepal that is considered the most marginalized group, that is, numerically small and deprived of the facilities and opportunities provided by the state, have been included in the closed list for the upcoming proportional representation elections.

Two old and one newly formed party have placed two people from Chitwan and one from Makawanpur on the banned list. Govindaram Chepang, the central chairman of the Nepal Chepang Association, who is also a member of the Constituent Assembly, said that while studying the banned list, it was found that the CPN-UML, the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and the Gatishil Loktantrik Party (GALOP) have placed one person each on the banned list. According to him, the UML has placed Santa Bahadur Chepang of Shaktikhor, Chitwan and Biswas Chepang of Korak on the banned list. Similarly, the CPN has placed Mangal Singh Chepang of Makawanpur Manahari on the banned list, said Chairman Govindaram Chepang.

The Chepangs mainly live in the hilly areas of Chitwan, Makawanpur, Dhading and Gorkha districts. According to the 2078 BS census, the population of Chepangs across the country is 84,364. The largest number of Chepangs live in Chitwan, with 35,637.
