As the extreme cold has increased in the past few days, the District Administration Office has started distributing 'warm clothes' to needy families.
The administration has started distributing 'warm clothes' to poor families in collaboration with various organizations.
Warm clothes were distributed to 40 families of Rapti Municipality-3 on Tuesday.
Chitwan Chief District Officer (CDO) Ganesh Aryal said that firewood will be distributed along with warm clothes after collecting data from poor families in other places. 'It has been extremely cold in the district for the past four days, we are coordinating and providing assistance so that no one faces any problems due to the cold,' said CDO Aryal.
Due to a long-standing internal dispute between people's representatives in Rapti Municipality, the local government has not been able to provide assistance. Keeping that situation in mind, the administration has started a support campaign for the poor in those areas.
The administration distributed warm clothes in collaboration with two social organizations of Bharatpur, Lion Club of Health and Bharatpur Youth. The administration has also started distributing warm clothes from its own budget. "The Home Ministry has issued a circular to ensure that all efforts are made to protect people from the cold. We are distributing warm clothes on our own and in collaboration with other supporting organizations," said Pradya Aryal.
Along with Pradya Aryal, Lions International District 325 R Nepal Governor Nawaraj Sapkota, Rapti-3 Ward Chairman Shivakant Oli and other public representatives were present to distribute warm clothes.
The average daily minimum temperature in Chitwan has been 12 degrees Celsius since Saturday. The Bharatpur Airport Office has stated that the minimum temperature in Chitwan was 11 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
The Chitwan administration has taken the initiative to protect people from the cold after the Meteorological Forecasting Division said that there will be no sunshine for a few more days. However, local levels have not come up with concrete programs to protect people from the cold. Some municipalities, including Bharatpur, have decided to close schools on Wednesday.
