Free cataract surgeries were performed on 1,055 cataract patients over a period of three days at Nijgadh Tilganga Eye Hospital in Nijgadh Municipality, Bara.
The hospital has stated that 405 people underwent cataract surgery on Sunday alone.
Sudhir Shrestha, the manager of Hetauda Community Eye Hospital, informed that the free cataract surgery program, which started on Friday morning, includes patients aged 11 to 79. He said that the target is to perform cataract surgery on a total of 1,250 people by Monday.
The eye hospital's medical team had visited various rural areas of Bara, Parsa, Rautahat and Sarlahi districts and conducted free eye camps to identify cataract patients.
Out of the 6,500 people who underwent eye tests in the free eye camps conducted in the four districts, 1,500 were found to have cataracts, said Shrestha, the manager. "Identified cataract patients have been brought to Tilganga Eye Hospital in Nijgadh in turn since Friday and operated on," he said.
The hospital has arranged transportation to bring cataract patients for surgery. The hospital has made all the arrangements for food and accommodation for the patients undergoing surgery and their families. The hospital has also made arrangements to take the patients home after removing the blindfold.
The free eye check-up camp and cataract surgery were jointly organized by the Tilganga Eye Foundation and Nijgadh Tilganga Eye Hospital with the support of Operation Rejoice Singapore.
The cataract surgery is being conducted under the leadership of ophthalmologist Dr. Rita Gurung. Established in 2081 Kartik, Nijgadh Tilganga Eye Hospital has been conducting regular eye check-ups, surgery services, distribution of glasses and medicines, as well as community programs.
This camp is the first campaign of Nijgadh Tilganga Eye Hospital, which has been conducting cataract surgeries for 1,500 people at a time.
