On Sunday, December 26, Sushila Ghising Bamjan, 32, of BP Nagar, Kamalamai Municipality-4, Sindhuli, fed her two daughters and one son lunch and took them to their tuition like any other day after they finished school. When she returned, her 35-year-old sister, Mina Bamjan, was sitting in the kitchen, looking angry.
Sushila got involved in domestic affairs. Nanda Mina, who had planned the murder, suddenly doused Sushila with petrol, set her on fire and locked her door from outside.
Despite her pleas, Sushila did not feel anything and eventually died on the spot.
After the incident, the police arrested Nanda Mina and her mother-in-law, 60-year-old Mayarani Bamjan. Her father-in-law, 65-year-old Durgaman, who was said to have gone to save her daughter-in-law, suffered some burns. He has been suffering from paralysis for a long time. In her statement to the police, Nanda Mina said that she doused her with petrol, set her sister-in-law on fire and closed the door, and that her mother, Mayarani, had closed the channel gate.
It is worth noting that her father-in-law, Durgaman, is the maternal uncle of the murdered Sushila. Sushila's husband has been in Korea for two years for foreign employment. Sushila's father Prem Bahadur Ghising has filed a complaint against Nanda, his mother-in-law and father-in-law for killing his daughter. Nanda Mina and mother-in-law Mayarani are in police custody. Father-in-law Durgaman is undergoing treatment under police supervision.
After the locals opened a sealed house in BP Nagar to remove weeds, they vandalized and attempted to set it on fire. The police had to impose a curfew yesterday as the crowd could not be controlled despite using tear gas. Twelve policemen and some protesters were injured when the locals pelted stones at them. They have also demonstrated against the police administration. The locals are angry that they were allowed to enter the sealed house without permission to remove the goods, while the police have said that they allowed the goods to be removed with the consent of the victim.
Sindhuli Police Chief SP Laldhwaj Subedi said that there was a problem with the clothes and belongings in the house being allowed to be removed with the consent of the victim. 'It seems that the police administration has gone against the victim when the angry crowd did not understand what was being done according to the law. We have already brought the perpetrator to justice,' he said. 'The victim's consent was given to remove the clothes and kitchen utensils of the children.' Locals suspect that the evidence will be destroyed.'
The police have also issued arrest warrants for father-in-law Durgaman and husband Surya Bamjan based on the statement of Nanda Mina, who committed the arson. Father-in-law Durgaman is undergoing treatment at the Burn Hospital in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, under police surveillance. Police have said that efforts are being made to bring back her husband, who is in Korea. Locals and the victim's family are holding daily demonstrations and protests demanding the arrest of all four people involved in the murder and the transfer of the house and property to the names of the three children.
