The local Khel Bahadur Tamang family has been left in a state of distress after a house was gutted in a fire due to an electrical short circuit in Gesher Danda Sawane, Bahrabise Municipality-3 of the district.

According to Durga Prasad Bhandari, the head of the disaster department of Bahrabise Municipality, the fire broke out around 3:30 pm on Thursday due to an electrical short circuit. 'We don't know how the fire started, we didn't even have time to save the house. Everything we had is gone, how can we rebuild it now?' Tamang said.

Tamang's thatched house has been completely destroyed in the fire. The Tamang family has been forced to live in the open after the clothes, food, utensils and other daily necessities inside the house were reduced to ashes.

Immediately after the incident, locals and various supporters provided emergency and basic food items along with relief supplies on Friday. Bahrabise Municipality has also handed over daily necessities as relief supplies. The municipality has provided initial relief and the process for additional assistance is underway, Bhandari said.

The Tamang family is in a state of confusion after losing their home and livelihood. Locals said they expect support from local levels and stakeholders for temporary housing and long-term rehabilitation during the cold season.
