The Nepal Academy of Fine Arts is planning to hold provincial-level and ultimately national-level fine arts exhibitions in all seven provinces of the country.

The provincial-level art exhibition will begin in Gaindakot, Gandaki Province. After the Bagmati Province art exhibition ends in the first week of Falgun, the national-level exhibition will be organized in Jestha, said Devendra Thumkeli, member secretary of the institution.

The Gandaki Province-level art workshop and exhibition will be organized by the Gaindakot Nagar Pragya Pratishthan of Gaindakot Municipality. The exhibition, which will begin in Gaindakot on Magh 15, will last for five days, said Bhim Sharma, vice-chancellor of Gaindakot Nagar Pragya Pratishthan. He said that up to 150 artworks from all the districts of Gandaki Province are expected to be included in it.

According to Thumkeli, member secretary of the Fine Arts Academy Pragya Pratishthan, the selected artworks from all the seven provinces will be included in the exhibition to be held in Kathmandu from Jestha 15. He said that the best artworks will be selected and awarded from there. Thumkeli informed that there will be a competition in eight categories including contemporary painting, sculpture, traditional sculpture, handicrafts, architecture and folk art, traditional painting, multi-dimensional and other creative genres. ‘We will announce and award the best art from the exhibition to be held in Kathmandu. The best artist in the country from all the eight categories will receive a prize of one lakh rupees,’ said Member Secretary Thumkeli.

He also said that the best art in all the eight categories will receive a prize of 60 thousand rupees. He also said that the best at the provincial level will receive 50 thousand rupees and the best in the category will receive 30 thousand rupees. He said that art should be prepared in a way that is in line with the slogan ‘Social Transformation, Fine Arts Campaign’.

‘The art sector has made a great contribution to the nation. Handicrafts worth 27 billion rupees are exported annually. When the domestic market is included, there is a turnover of 40 billion rupees. If this can be promoted, there is a possibility of generating a turnover of one trillion rupees, both internally and externally, and providing employment to millions,' said Thumkeli.
