Advocate Apsara Basnet's name has been recommended for the post of Chief Advocate of Bagmati Province. Basnet will become the first female Chief Advocate not only of Bagmati Province but also of the province.
Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya has recommended his name to the provincial chief for the post of Chief Advocate. Earlier, Dolakha advocate Sukdev Kafle was in charge of the position.
Basnet's name was recommended after Kafle resigned. Advocate Basnet is also the outgoing president of the Makawanpur District Bar Association. She also became the first woman president of the bar association.
An official at the provincial chief's office said that provincial chief Deepak Prasad Devkota is preparing to appoint Basnet and administer the oath on Sunday.
