Former combatant Hari Bahadur Danuwar, who was seriously injured during the armed people's war, has found safe housing 10 years after the earthquake.

A two-room house has been built for Danuwar of Tipeni in Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality with local support and the party's initiative.

According to the rural municipality committee coordinator Dil Bahadur Waiba, assistance worth Rs 167,000 has been collected in kind, while Rs 315,690 has been collected in cash.

On Monday, Provincial Assembly member Yubaraj Dulal inaugurated the house and handed over the keys to Danuwar.  'I got the house a long time after the earthquake. We started this project because it is the common responsibility of both the state and society to make the lives of injured and disabled ex-combatants who contributed to the peace process easier,'  Provincial Assembly member Dulal said.

Danuwar, who had come back from the brink of death three times during the People's War, lost one eye and three fingers on his left hand while fighting for the country. After the peace process, he and his family were forced to live in an unsafe hut for years. The roof leaked during the rains and the lack of heat in the winter made his daily life difficult.

Locals and well-wishers supported the support campaign launched by the Nepali Communist Party Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality Committee.

With the new house, the Danuwar family now hopes for a safe and dignified life. Locals said that this house is not just a place to live for the former combatant Danuwar, but also a basis for hope over the years of deprivation and pain.
