2,209 students of Kathmandu University are graduating

More than 2,000 students of Kathmandu University are set to be initiated. 2,209 students of the university are set to be initiated in the 31st convocation (first phase) to be held on Wednesday.

The ceremony, which will be held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister and Chancellor Sushila Karki, will be chaired by Prof. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. Minister for Education, Science and Technology and Pro-Chancellor Mahabir Pun is also scheduled to participate. 

83 students from the University's School of Arts, 294 from the School of Education, 340 from the School of Engineering, 36 from the School of Law, 378 from the School of Management, 881 from the School of Medical Sciences and 197 from the School of Science will be inducted in the ceremony, it was informed at a press conference on Monday.

Among the inductees, there will be 7 students from PhD, DM and MCH levels, 397 from postgraduate levels, 50 from PGD levels and 1,728 from undergraduate levels. Among the inductees, 52.24 percent (1,154) will be men and 47.76 percent (1,055) will be women.

Among the graduates, 196 foreigners from 17 countries including Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Bhutan, UK, India, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Mexico, Namibia, Russia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, America and Vietnam will be there.

At the press conference, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle, gave detailed information about the university's expanded educational plan, the involvement of foreign professors, and upcoming international and institutional programs. According to him, KU has prioritized attracting international faculties as the participation of foreign professors will have a positive impact on the academic competitiveness and quality improvement of both students and teachers. He informed that in view of the increasing number of students, the university has decided to take the proposal to the Senate to add 35 new professor/associate professor/professor posts. According to him, the number of students at Kathmandu University has increased by 23 percent in recent times.
