The motorcycle and its driver that hit and fled a person on a morning walk in Bharatpur have been taken into custody by the police in Kathmandu 48 days after the incident. Krishna Prasad Kandel, 60, of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-4, was hit by the motorcycle on the Rampur-bound road near Chaubiskothi in Bharatpur at around 5:15 am on Asoj 21 while he was out for a morning walk.

Kandel, who was seriously injured in the collision, is still undergoing treatment. The motorcyclist who hit him was absconding after the incident. Family members and relatives had been demanding the administration to find the absconding driver.

Chitwan District Police Office spokesperson DSP Rabindra Khanal said that they have analyzed various types of investigation methods and hundreds of CCTV videos from various places. He said that they have decided that the accident was caused by motorcycle number 37 Pa 8530, even though dozens of motorcycles came under suspicion.

Khanal said that the motorcycle was driven by 27-year-old Sunil Gurung of Gorkha Municipality-13. After the investigation revealed that Gurung was hiding in Boudha, Kathmandu, the Chitwan police had sought the help of Teku police.

Gurung was arrested from Boudha on Tuesday, November 20, DSP Khanal said. He also informed that the Chitwan District Court has extended Gurung's remand for seven days to investigate the vehicle mutilation case.
