People's representatives elected in Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City on behalf of the Congress and the Unified Socialist Party have boycotted the executive meeting.
The executive meeting called for 8 am on Wednesday was postponed without even starting after nine ward chairmen of the Congress, including Deputy Mayor Rajesh Kumar Baniya and one ward chairperson elected from the Samajwadi Party, did not attend.
They said that they did not attend the meeting after Mayor Meena Kumari Lama did not give the ward chairmen close to the Congress time to express their views in the previous executive meeting. “Why did we not attend the meeting when we were not allowed to express our views?” said a ward chairperson elected from the Congress.
According to him, some ward chairmen elected from the UML were present in Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City for the meeting, but returned after the meeting did not take place.
The executive of Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City has 29 members. The meeting has been reconvened for 9 am on Thursday, according to the Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City.
According to Sabin Neupane, spokesperson for Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City and elected ward chairperson of Ward No. 1 on behalf of the Congress, the dispute arose after Mayor Lama did not give the ward chairpersons time to speak during the discussion on the agenda of the previous meeting. ‘During the discussion on the agenda in the previous meeting, we had asked for the floor to express our views. However, we did not get it. That is why we did not attend this meeting,’ he said.
Mayor Lama is doing internal homework to resolve the problem with the ward chairperson and deputy mayor elected by the Congress at 8 am on Thursday, according to a secretariat source. ‘Preparations are being made to discuss tomorrow morning and hold an executive session after reaching an agreement,’ said a secretariat source.
