An international mountaineering team has reached the base camp to climb Jugal 4 and Jugal 5, two peaks of the Jugal mountain range located at the head of Jugal rural municipality, about 140 kilometers from Kathmandu.
According to Mahendra Singh Thapa, President of the Sindh Sukute Tourism Entrepreneurs Association, seven mountaineers from the UK reached the base camp on Saturday to climb Jugal 4 and 5, out of the 11 peaks of the Jugal mountain range, with the aim of promoting tourism.
Norway's Henrik Bergsen, led by world-renowned mountaineer and author Leo Howling from Scotland, is preparing to climb Jugal 4. Similarly, a five-member team including UK's James Peter Williams Perrier has reached the base camp to climb Jugal 5. 'On Saturday, some groups reached the base camp and some reached the high camp. On Sunday, they are preparing to climb Jugal 4 and 5,' said President Thapa.
According to him, this climb will connect Sindhupalchowk's tourism to the international level. The team, which came on Thapa's initiative, is preparing to climb Jugal 4 at an altitude of 5,936 meters and Jugal 5 at an altitude of 5,922 meters, respectively. He added, "These mountaineers, who were welcomed in Kathmandu on November 4, are now safely on their climbing journey."
According to Milan Tamang, chairman of the Jugal Rural Municipality Tourism Committee, Gapa is fully supporting the mountaineering team. Thapa is currently active in promoting the Panchpokhari and Jugal areas as international tourist destinations. Previously, the peak of Jugal, Glazen Peak (Phurpa Jyo Jyo Peak), which is at an altitude of 6,151 meters, has been climbed twice. On 23 Baisakh 2081, a team of mountaineers from Nepal and Korea successfully climbed Mount Jugal-1.
Two years ago, five climbers including singer Sajja Chaulagain, Nimagyaljen Sherpa, and Jaisi Syalinsa, along with the Himalayan Shepherd Nepal climbing unit, successfully climbed Jugal 5, one of the 11 peaks (5,922 meters) of Jugal Himal. On Chaitra 29, 2075, a team led by Everest climber Maya Gurung hoisted the flag by setting foot on Jugal for the first time. Similarly, on Kartik 3, a team led by Everest climber Sharmila Lama Syangtan also successfully climbed.
According to Buddhist tradition, the vast area in the lap of the Jugal mountain range is considered Nepemasal (heaven of the gods). The Tongkyup Cave, Bumbasherbu, Shabal Pokhari, the source of the Brahmayani River, Hajar Cave, and Gap Kharka are important places from a religious and cultural perspective.
Stakeholders say that Nepemasal, located at an altitude of 3,500 meters, and the surrounding natural beauty of the Jugal area have the potential to be developed as a major tourism destination in the country.
