A police team from Hetauda destroyed marijuana plants planted in an area of 30 bighas and 10 katthas from Monday to Thursday, said Pushkar Bogati, Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson of the District Police Office, Makawanpur.
A 102-member team jointly deployed from the District Police Office, Makawanpur and Armed Police Force Nepal No. 14 Battalion, Hetauda, Makawanpur, uprooted marijuana plants planted in 30 and a half bighas of land in four days, he said.
The police team had destroyed marijuana plants planted in Chisapani, Beltar, Temta, Goretar, Debutar under Raksirang Rural Municipality, Satkanya, Khaireni, Joiti under Kailash Rural Municipality, and Bhadaure and Jyarbu under Bhimphedi Rural Municipality. According to the police, local levels, community representatives and related bodies also helped in the uprooting of marijuana.
In Makawanpur, in the last fiscal year, the police had uprooted and destroyed marijuana plants planted on 120 bighas 4 kathas of land in Raksirang and Kailash rural municipalities. In the same year, the police had also destroyed opium crops planted on 39 bighas 14 kathas of land in those two rural municipalities. Marijuana and opium are found to be cultivated in most of the areas of Raksirang and Kailash rural municipalities in Makawanpur.
