The Bagmati Province Government has purchased 5 printing machines to facilitate the process of printing driving licenses. The purchased printing machines have been installed in a secluded area of Lalitpur.

‘Those machines have not been able to come into operation because permission has not been received from the Security Printing Department. We have not been able to start printing without the permission of the Security Printing Department,’ said Birendra Dev Bharti, Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Transport of the Bagmati Province Government. ‘We will proceed with the process of printing licenses as soon as permission is received.’ One of the machines has the capacity to print about 150 driving licenses per hour.

According to Bagmati Province Minister for Labor, Employment and Transport, Jayaram Thapa, thousands of citizens who have passed the driving license exam and paid revenue for renewal are still waiting for their licenses. Even after completing the legal process by paying the required revenue, service recipients have been facing inconvenience as they have not received their licenses on time.

The provincial government has taken this initiative with the aim of strengthening public-oriented service delivery in accordance with the provisions of Section 9, Sub-Section 3 of the Security Printing Act 2081. He said, "The provincial government expects that the service to the people will be faster and easier if arrangements can be made to print the permit at the provincial level."

Currently, more than 2.5 million driver's licenses, including 1.2 million in Bagmati Province and 1.3 million across the country, remain to be printed. Currently, due to the arrangement to be printed from the center, printing is delayed, material transportation and distribution take time, and the people have to suffer unnecessarily.

Although the Bagmati Provincial Government has repeatedly written to the federal government for the necessary approval, the ministry has stated that no clear instructions and decisions have been received so far.
