Cybercrime incidents are increasing every year in Makawanpur. Scams and online fraud using the internet are increasing.
The District Police Office, Makawanpur, has stated that the number of people filing complaints with the police is also increasing due to the increase in online scams. In the first three months of the current fiscal year 2082/083 alone, 52 people filed complaints alleging online fraud or scams, said Pushkar Bogati, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Spokesperson of the District Police Office, Makawanpur.
In the last fiscal year 2081/082, 223 people filed complaints with the District Police Office, Makawanpur alleging online fraud. In the previous fiscal year 2080/081, only 94 people filed complaints with the police against online fraud. The police have stated that complaints are especially received regarding fraud in online financial transactions, i.e. cyber crimes, through e-services and online banking. Police Spokesperson Bogati said that complaints are also received at the police office regarding fraud in online shopping.
However, only a few victims get their problems resolved after online fraud. In the last fiscal year, out of 223 complaints filed by people, only 27 victims' problems have been resolved, according to police data. Since Shrawan of the current fiscal year, 52 people have filed complaints alleging they were victims of online fraud, but only 2 complaints have been resolved so far.
The District Police Office, Makawanpur, has received 24 complaints against social media-related crimes including Facebook hacks, fake Facebook IDs, and TikTok until Ashoja of the current fiscal year. The Police Office has stated that 170 complaints were filed against social media-related cyber crimes in the last fiscal year.
