Buddhiram Bote, 65, of Pandavnagar, Madi Municipality-1, who left his home yesterday (Friday) afternoon to look for snails, was found dead in a river on Saturday morning.

According to DSP Rabindra Khanal, spokesperson of the Chitwan District Police Office, Buddhiram's body was found lying face down in a swamp on the banks of the Riu River.

Buddhiram left his house at 1 pm on Friday to collect snails but did not return home until the evening, so the search was launched. The team of Police Assistant Inspector Arjun Ghimire of the Madi Baruwa Police Station had been searching for him since 6:30 am this morning. The police said that his body was found on the banks of the Riu River, one and a half kilometers away from the village, at around 7:30 am.

Buddhiram's son, who had cancer, also passed away today:

His elder brother Ravilal Bote did not hear the news that the body of the missing Buddhiram was found. Ravilal had also died before he reached home. According to Amit Lama, ward chairman of Madi Municipality-1, Buddhiram's eldest brother, Rabi, had cancer. Rabi also died this morning due to the same reason, ward chairman Lama said.

Buddhiram was attacked by bears and gauri cows before:

Pandavnagar in Madi is a village dominated by the indigenous community of Chitwan, Bote. The people living in this village, which is located near Chitwan National Park and Someshwor Forest, are mostly poor. That is why they go to pick wild greens and yams and search for fish, crabs, and snails in the Riu and Deuti rivers.

In this way, wild animals also attack those who go to the forest and rivers far from home. Buddhiram was also attacked before. Jag Narayan Bote, secretary of the office of the Panch Pandav Intermediate Consumers Committee of Chitwan National Park, said that Buddhiram was attacked by gauri cows two years ago when he went to the forest.

Before that, he was also attacked by a bear once. Although he was seriously injured, he recovered after receiving treatment. ‘There are 40/50 houses of Bote in Pandavnagar. Most of them are squatters. The land of those who have land titles has also been eroded by the river. "We are forced to go to the forest and river to look for fish and ghogs," said Jag Narayan Bote.

Chitwan police have said that further investigation into Buddhiram's death is underway. Ward Chairman Amit Lama and other locals have said that Buddhiram was also suffering from epilepsy, which causes him to faint occasionally.
