The Chitwan District Administration Office has issued a notice to avoid non-essential travel on the Narayangadh-Muglin and Prithvi Highways.
A notice issued by Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal states that small landslides have been occurring since yesterday evening at Tuinkhola on the Narayangadh-Muglin road and from Muglin to Malekhu on the Prithvi Highway. The administration says that the risk of landslides has increased due to the non-stop rain.
Even though the road is being cleared of small landslides and opened, the risk of landslides has also increased due to the non-stop rain, Aryal says. The Narayangadh-Muglin and Prithvi Highway are the main road sections connecting the capital Kathmandu and the tourist city Pokhara with the East-West Mahendra Highway. 10-15 thousand vehicles ply these roads daily. But in recent years, landslides and dry landslides have occurred during the rainy season and sometimes in winter, blocking the road for hours.
