Due to the burning of courts and prisoners escaping from prisons during the Gen-G movement, files of major cooperative fraud cases registered in Chitwan have been burned. The main accused has escaped from prison.
Nagendra Bahadur Rimal and Krishna Prasad Gyawali, accused of embezzling the savings of Sunrise Cooperative, headquartered in Narayangadh Lions Chowk, have absconded.
They are also the main accused in the fraud case of the Chichipi Cooperative located in Kawasoti, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East). According to the details made public by the Department of Prison Management on Asoj 28, along with these two, Sangita Chitaure Magar, a cooperative case, has also absconded from Bharatpur Jail. A case has been filed alleging that the savers of Sunrise Cooperative were defrauded of Rs 900 million.
Nagendra Bahadur Rimal, who has a permanent residence in Bardiya, is the chairman of Sunrise Cooperative. Krishna Prasad Gyawali, also from Bardiya, is the treasurer of the cooperative. This group came from Bardiya and started running Sunrise Cooperative in Narayangadh since 2071 BS. Similarly, they had brought the Chichipi Cooperative into operation in Kawasoti since 2073 BS.
Sunrise Cooperative was closed since October 2079 after the cooperative's directors lost contact without returning the savings. Rimal's mother-in-law Geeta Basnet, who became an MP from the RPP, is also an accused in this case. She was absconding when the case was filed last year. She appeared in court last Bhadra and was released on a bail of 2.5 million.
Along with Sunrise Cooperative, the fraud case of Sahara Chitwan Multipurpose Cooperative, in which Rabi Lamichhane is an accused, is also pending in Chitwan. The file of this case was in the court's field number one. The files of fields numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 were mostly burnt, said Amrit Bishwakarma, the court's information officer. The Chitwan District Court was set on fire on the afternoon of Bhadra 24.
Due to the arson, most of the court's records and files of ongoing cases were burnt to ashes. The building has also been damaged. Regular services have not yet started in the Chitwan District Court. Similarly, prisoners and detainees began escaping from other prisons in the capital and other parts of the country on Bhadra 24, committing acts of vandalism, arson, and rioting.
The prisoners and detainees of Bharatpur Jail in Chitwan left the prison en masse on the morning of Bhadra 25. There was a large riot or vandalism in Bharatpur. The administration issued a notice on the same day warning the prisoners and detainees to return immediately. However, according to the details released by the Department of Prison Management, 143 prisoners and detainees of Bharatpur Jail, including 131 Nepalis and 12 Indians, are absconding. Of those who left the prison, 600 have returned.
