With the opening of the weather, the movement of foreign and domestic tourists reaching Rolwaling area has increased. Tourists going on a trek in the Himalayan region have started reaching towards Chho-Rolpa and Dudhkund in Rolwaling region.
However, the flood that occurred on October 16-17 has washed away the temporary narrow and wooden bridges from Dongnang to Upper Thangding, and the footpath has been blocked. Three temporary bridges were swept away by the flood of Thinglung River, and tourists have to cross the river with the help of ropes.
Pasang Kidar Sherpa, an international mountain trail guide, said, 'We went with a team of 9 foreign tourists to the Rolwaling area. After the flood swept away the bridge, they had to travel at their own risk. On our return, we crossed the river with the help of a rope and brought it to a safe area.'
Local hotelier Uttar Kumar Thakuri said, 'This year, the number of foreign tourists has increased significantly. About 100-150 tourists are reaching Rolwaling area daily. However, some tourists have complained that there are risks on the footpath. If the local government does not immediately manage the temporary, tourism may have a negative impact.'
Biswas Karki, chairman of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-9, informed that preparations are being made to immediately construct the temporary bridges and wooden bridges swept away by the flood. He said, 'We are adopting alternative measures for the convenience of tourists. A temporary structure will be made and the journey will be resumed within a day or two. A request has also been made to the provincial government for the construction of a permanent bridge.
Rolwaling Valley has become the choice of the young generation. Most of the domestic tourists reach the final destination of the trek, Chho-Rolpa, which is at an altitude of 4,580 meters, while foreign tourists go to Everest via the Rolwaling trail, Tasilapcha pass, Thame, a tourist village in Solukhumbu.
An average of more than 300 foreign tourists have visited Rolwaling region during this year's season and this number is expected to increase as the season continues.
