The road network of Mahabharat Rural Municipality of Kavre has been disconnected for five days due to the flood that occurred in Roshi last week after the rains. Due to flood, none of the roads leading to Mahabharat Rural Municipality have been operational.
There are three roads leading from BP highway to Mahabharata. But Kanchhalal Jimba, chairman of the rural municipality, said that not a single road could be operated due to the flood. According to him, because the BP highway could not be operated, even diesel could not be taken to run the dozer to repair the road leading to the village.
Zimba said that as soon as the BP highway is operational, road maintenance will be started by using diesel.
The concrete bridge of Thansingbensi connecting Namobuddha-6 and Roshi-7 on the Chowkidanda-Sipali-Mahabharat road, which is the easiest way to reach the Mahabharata, was swept away by the floods in October last year. After that, even though the road network was connected by placing a hump pipe in Roshi, as soon as the flow increases in Roshi, the hump pipe is washed away. The rural municipality has been taking initiatives since last year to build another concrete bridge at the place where the
bridge was washed away. But as the process has not started yet, the road connection with the rural municipality is disconnected during normal rains.
Due to the disconnection of the road, the villagers have to walk for two days to reach the urban areas including the headquarters Dhulikhel. "We have repeatedly told the federal government, the state government and the disaster management authority for the construction of the bridge, that it is in the plan, but it has been ignored when the budget is set," says President Zimba, "Because of this, the villagers are suffering all year round."
Village Chairman Zimba met Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kulman Ghising and requested for budget management for bridge construction. Minister Ghising has promised to keep the bailey bridge for the time being and to manage the budget for the construction of the concrete bridge as well.
President Zimba's statement that as soon as the flow of Roshi subsides, the road will be constructed again in Thansingbensi, and as soon as the BP highway is opened, road repairs will also be started on Janmukti Marg, which reaches the village through Narke.
