156 of those who came out of Chitwan's Bharatpur Jail branch during the Gen-G demonstration have not yet returned. The government had given the prisoners and detainees who escaped from the prison until October 20th to return. During this period, the government has given the facility that those who come in contact with the prison will not face any further action.
According to Chetanath Dhungana, information officer of Bharatpur Jail, there were 491 male prisoners and 203 inmates in Bharatpur Jail. Similarly, there were 40 women prisoners and 6 detainees. Those who have been sentenced to imprisonment after the case has been decided are called prisoners, while those whose cases are yet to be decided are called detainees.
All 743 men and women prisoners, detainees and their dependent children in Bharatpur Jail were released from the jail on the morning of 25th August. Of these, 538 men and 37 women, 575 prisoners and detainees have returned to Bharatpur Jail. Two dependent children among them have also come to Bharatpur Jail. Similarly, 6 male and two female prisoners who were released from Bharatpur jail and detainees are in other jails.
'On the morning of August 25, a total of 743 people, including four dependent children, left Bharatpur Jail. So far, 585 people including two dependent children have returned. 156 prisoners and detainees and two children dependent on three others have not yet returned,'' said prison information officer Dhungana. He said that the work is being done to prepare the details of which crimes and accusations, how many returned, and how many did not come back.
There are many prisoners and detainees connected with wildlife crime in Bharatpur Jail. According to the prison administration, there were 46 people in Bharatpur Jail for killing a rare wild animal rhinoceros and selling its parts. Two of them were prisoners. Both the detainees and 29 prisoners have come in contact with Bharatpur Jail. One prisoner was captured in Tanahun. Chetanath Dhungana, Information Officer of Bharatpur Jail, informed that 14 prisoners of the rhinoceros case have not been contacted.
