After the dispute over the shares that should be distributed to the locals by the Upper Bhotekosi Hydroelectricity, the agitating locals vandalized the Bhotekosi rural municipality office on Thursday. According to local police Bahrbise, some of them tried to set fire to the village by setting tires on fire.

'The fire has been stopped immediately, we are controlling the crowd immediately, the situation has almost calmed down,' said Inspector Sumesh Pandey of Bahrbiseka, IPR, who was assigned to the scene.

Earlier, during the Zen-G movement, the locals stopped power generation by shutting down the power house for 10 days . The agitating locals became angry after getting the information that the company recently discussed only with the people's representative including village chairman Pasang Nurpu Sherpa to resume production.

They gathered at the municipality building, objecting to the meeting between the company and the people's representatives amid the disagreements of the locals. Police said that when the dispute became intense, stones were pelted and vandalized. As the anger grew, the people's representatives and company officials left the meeting place and ran away. Two people were slightly injured in the incident.

Even though electricity production started about two decades ago from the Upper Bhotekosi hydropower project with a capacity of 46 megawatts, there have been many disputes over the fact that shares have not been distributed to the locals as promised. There is constant tension in the Bhotekosi area regarding this issue.
