Bagmati Provincial Assembly meeting has started. The meeting started an hour and a half after the scheduled time at the state assembly building in Hetaunda.
Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniyan will take the vote of confidence in Tuesday's meeting. Baniyan, who was appointed Chief Minister on 20th July after replacing the government led by Bahadur Singh Lama Tamang, is going to take the vote of confidence.
Chief Minister Lama has been saying that he will not give a vote of confidence if the agreement with him is not followed . However, the Congress Bagmati Province Parliamentary Party has issued a whip to give a vote of confidence to the Chief Minister .
56 votes are required for a vote of confidence in the 110-member provincial assembly. There are 37 MPs of Congress and 27 MPs of UML.
Lama was appointed Chief Minister a year ago according to the agreement that Congress will take the leadership in Bagmati for the first two years after the Congress and UML became an equation at the center . However, after Lama was removed in the internal power struggle within the party, Baniyan was appointed as the Chief Minister for the rest of the term.
He resigned on July 18 after the Banyan-led group removed Lama as the leader of the parliamentary party. Although he was removed from the leadership of the Congress parliamentary party, he was initially reluctant to leave the chief ministership. After a motion of no confidence was registered against him in the parliamentary party, Lama, as the Chief Minister, appointed Provincial Assembly members Govind Lamsal as Ministers for Internal Affairs and Law and Maya Shrestha and Geeta Gurung as Ministers.
