Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniyan is going to take a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly on Tuesday. Baniyan, who became the Chief Minister with the support of UML and Congress, is going to take the vote of confidence on July 27 as per the constitutional provisions.

There is a constitutional provision that a vote of confidence must be taken from the Parliament within 30 days of the appointment of the Chief Minister.

In the notification made public on Thursday by the Secretary of the Provincial Assembly, Ram Kumar Paudel, it is mentioned that the Chief Minister Baniyan will submit a motion of confidence according to the clause (4) of Article 168 of the Constitution of Nepal and the sub-rule (1) of Rule 143 of the Provincial Assembly Regulations, 2074. For this, Speaker Bhuvan Kumar Pathak has fixed the date for holding the state assembly meeting on 27th July at 4 pm. In the meeting, vote of confidence will be discussed and votes will be divided.

Baniyan, who is also the president of Bagmati province of Congress, became the chief minister on Tuesday, July 20, with the support of a total of 64 MPs, including 37 from his party and 27 from the power partner UML. There are 110 MPs in the state assembly. He replaced the leader of his own party, Bahadur Singh Lama Tamang, and became the Chief Minister of Banyan.

Baniyan, becoming the Chief Minister, passed a motion of no confidence against Lama in the state parliamentary party of the Congress and increased the pressure to resign as the Chief Minister. After losing the party leader election and at the request of party chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba, Lama was forced to resign from the post of chief minister.
