The Bagmati state government has decided to make Sunday a public holiday throughout the state on the occasion of Gaijatra festival.

The cabinet meeting on 19th of Chait 2081 decided to give 4 other public holidays including Gaijatra festival  . According to that decision, it was decided to include public holidays in the calendar. On that day, public institutions, schools and private organizations of Bagmati Province will be closed. 

The festival of Gaijatra is celebrated in various places including Kathmandu valley in Bagmati province where the Newar community lives.
