Indra Bahadur Baniyan has submitted a claim for the Chief Ministership of Bagmati Province. Baniyan, the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, submitted a claim to the state chief Deepak Prasad Devkota some time ago.

After Bahadur Singh Lama resigned as the Chief Minister on Sunday, Provincial Chief Minister Devkota called on the Provincial Assembly members who can get a majority with the support of two or more parties represented in the Provincial Assembly to submit claims to the Chief Minister according to Article 168 of the Constitution.

The time for submission of claims has been set until 2 pm on Tuesday. Banyan has claimed that he has the support of 64 MPs, including 37 from the Congress and 27 from the UML. The support of 56 MPs is required to form the government in the 110-member Bagmati state assembly.
