Sher Bahadur Thapa of Manthali Municipality-1 Manthalighat was in the process of breaking corn and planting paddy. He could not break the corn of the field. At the end of last June, the flood of the Ranjor River turned his farm into a swamp. Even the paddy field that was prepared for planting rice became a bug.
Due to the rains that fell in the middle of last June, the floods that came in the Ranjore river, about 500 plants of more than 50 families have turned into fertile fields. The farmers of Manthali are worried after the fields that can be eaten all year round become barren. Due to the flood, half a dozen houses were damaged. The locals have left their homes after the damaged houses are at risk.
Farmers could not plant crops this year after the flood of Ranjor River, which flows through the head of the Ajang landslide, turned the fields into bogs. He said, "They had broken corn and planted seed beds, but in one night, the field where they planted the seed beds with ripe corn was destroyed by the flood, and there was no choice but to lose the whole field that was made of rice."
He said that every year the flood of Ranjore river does not stop the process of turning the cultivated land into a barren. "This is the most fertile land in Manthali, but no effort has been made to stop the flood of the river," he said. He said that this year, the flood of the river has destroyed the fields along with the maize crop.
"The field that can be eaten all year round has been barren by the river and made squatters," he said. Last year, after the October flood washed away the fields with paddy, the locals planted corn again.
If they could not import rice last year, this year corn . Purna Bahadur Thapa, a local, said that the Ranjor river is washing away the crops without being able to bring them in. "Last June, the rice that was about to ripen was washed away by the flood and we were starving," he said.
He said that the flood also washed away the agricultural tools in the farm. "They don't build embankment at the required place in the river, they build it with poor quality," he said, "how many times we asked to build a good embankment, they didn't listen, what kind of embankment did they build to be swept away by normal floods?"
There were 120 families living around the Ranjor River. He said that some of them are staying in rooms in the capital after the river has entered their houses and become a risk. "Floods occur in the Ranjor River along with landslides, they come with large stones, they are uncontrollable and cause damage to the population," he said. "This was the farm that had a good cultivation, it was also turned into a barrage by Ranjor," he said. He said that some people left their homes and went to other places after the Ranjor river washed away the fields. He said that only a few left are near the village.
