What you should know

Most cases of drug-related criminal cases are registered in Makwanpur. Drug-related criminal cases are increasing year by year in the district police office, Makwanpur, where cases are registered and arrests are made.

In Makwanpur, 188 drug cases were registered in the last financial year (AW) 081/082, and 289 people were arrested, including natives and foreigners. According to the statistics of District Police Office Makwanpur, in the previous year i.e. 080/081, 158 drug cases were registered and 249 people were arrested. In the year 081/082, 6 thousand 4 kg of ganja was seized, while in the previous year, the police seized 3 thousand 931 kg of ganja.

Similarly, 26 kg of opium and 51 kg of hashish were seized in AW 081/082. The police seized 476 grams of brown heroin, 95,271 tablets of Nitravet, 2757 ampoules of Diazepam, and 628 bottles of Corex. Police also seized 55 vehicles used in drug trafficking.

Among all types of criminal incidents in the district, drug-related cases are a major challenge, so its control is becoming complicated, said Vishwaraj Khadka, Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Makwanpur.

The police say that while the cultivation of ganja and opium in the western region of the district cannot be controlled, the control of brown heroin and other drugs imported from India is becoming a challenge.

He said, 'The trend of using weapons and physical attacks on the police and security personnel who are engaged in controlling drug production, transportation, use and sale-distribution is also increasing. Illegal weapons are also used because of drugs.'

The local administration has been conducting various programs to control opium and ganja cultivation which is flourishing in Makwanpur. But as the local people's representatives seem to be indifferent towards the control of drug cultivation, this problem is becoming complicated, said an officer of District Administration Office Makwanpur. He said, "If the role of local people's representatives is not towards drug control, the police administration alone cannot control it."
