A one-day capacity building program has been completed in Kathmandu with the aim of bringing the marginalized communities into the mainstream of development.
A one-day capacity building program on raising social issues was completed in Kathmandu on Tuesday in collaboration with Ekta Foundation Nepal and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. In the
program, communication expert Raghu Mainali trained active journalists in Bagmati province. He said that since journalism plays an important role in bringing the marginalized community to the mainstream of development, it should be sensitive in this area.
Explaining the practice of journalists to promote social justice and inclusiveness, he also published about the art and knowledge of raising issues.
Prakash Dhaulakoti, Central Secretary of Federation of Nepalese Journalists, said that the issues of Dalit, women and marginalized communities have not been given adequate space by the mainstream media. He said that although some very big issues were covered by the small media, the mainstream media ignored them.
Journalist and president of Ekta Foundation Nepal Ramhari Shahi said that journalists who have contributed to change the system should now continue to monitor for promoting social justice and inclusiveness. Journalists participating in the
program shared their experience of facing many challenges including social and economic in writing news about social issues.
