Pre-disaster twelve: identification of vulnerable settlements, 81 disaster search and rescuers ready

Bahrbise Municipality, which has been facing many disasters in the past years, has started the necessary preparations before the disaster.

According to Durga Prasad Bhandari, head of disaster branch of Bahrbise Municipality, 63 settlements have been identified as being at high risk. In which there are about 1700 households . "For those who are being transferred to a safe place, 81 disaster rescuers have been prepared," Bhandari said.

The municipality has kept 81 disaster search and rescuers ready to effectively intervene in disaster risk reduction and emergency rescue. 18 more people participated in the recently completed 4-day refresher training and acquired the necessary skills .

The training started on May 22 and ended on May 25. In the training conducted with the technical cooperation of Nepal Red Cross Society district branch and the financial support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law of Bagmati Province, practical knowledge about rescue early warning system, search and rescue operations, and first aid was given.

training instructors were Bharat Prasad Koirala, Jagat Tamang, Sujan Wick and Kaziratna Maharjan. Representatives of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepali Army, Industry and Commerce Association, Division Forest Office, Red Cross and representatives of the municipality had significant participation.

Earlier, many people lost their lives due to landslides in Ghumthang Nagpuje Bhirkhark of Bahrbise Nagar and Phulpingkatti of Bhotekoshi, Tatopani Duguna along with Vik Tol, Jambu, Khagdal . He said that risk assessment, settlement relocation and useful training have been started to prevent such incidents from happening again.

It is expected that the training will help to reduce the risk of disasters such as fire, flood and landslide and make emergency preparations effective.
