Kanti Lokpath has been operational since 10 am on Sunday after the belay bridge was installed on the Makwanpur side of the Bagmati river bridge of Kanti Lokpath connecting Kathmandu. The Kanti Lokpath was put into operation after the work of connecting the Beilibridge towards Makwanpur on the Bagmati river bridge under the Kanti Lokpath was completed by Sunday morning.
"Since the work of installing the belay bridge was completed by 10:00 on Sunday morning, we have brought the Kanti Lokpath into operation from 10 am," said Ratlanakshmi Bajracharya, the head of the Kanti Lokpath road project, "This has been made possible by working 24 hours a day to install the belay bridge since June 21." "Gabins are also being installed for the protection of Beilibridge," said Sajan Neupane, the engineer of the project.
After the floods that occurred on 11th and 12th October washed away one of the spans of the Bagmati Bridge towards Makwanpur, the Kanti Lokpath was put into operation by making an access road of mud and sand. A belay bridge was installed at that place after the flood in the Bagmati River swept away the access road before the onset of the rainy season.
The Kanti Lokpath road project has closed the Lokpath for four days from 21st June i.e. Wednesday to 24th i.e. Saturday and installed the Beilibridge. Bhimfedi Rural Municipality-8 of Makwanpur and Bagmati Rural Municipality-2 of Lalitpur, a span of Bagmati river bridge towards Makwanpur was swept away by flood on October 11th and 12th. At that location, Kanti Lokpath Road Project has installed a 24.4 meter long and 5 meter wide belay bridge.
The load-carrying capacity of the belay bridge attached to the Bagmati Bridge is only 30 tons. The road project has sent a letter to the district administration offices of Makwanpur and Lalitpur and requested them to monitor the cargo vehicles on both sides. In the case of cargo vehicles (trucks/trailers), the technicians have said that vehicles should be operated in such a way that the maximum total weight is 30 tons and the maximum per-axle weight is 10 tons.
The project said that the construction company has been given a contract for about one and a half million to carry out protection works including Belybridge connection, Gavin. The Kanti Highway has been operational since 10 am on Sunday after the belay bridge was placed on the Baguwa River of the Bagmati river.
When the Kanti Lokpath was closed for four days, vehicles plying Hetaunda-Kathmandu and Kathmandu-Hetaunda used Kulekhani-Kalanki-Humane or Kulekhani-Sisneri-Pharping roads.
