Like Thami, 80-year-old Sommaya Tamang of Tripurasundari-4 and Krishnakumari Vick of 5 are living life with new energy and confidence after hysterectomy. In the same way, since the start of Aama Bachau Abhiyan in Sindhupalchowk, 71 people have undergone uterine prolapse surgery.
In the free camp organized by Tripurasundari rural municipality, it was identified that all of them need surgery. Some of them have refused to come to the hospital, while some have not been able to undergo surgery due to high blood pressure.
Under the 'Ama Bachau Abhiyaan' launched by Tripurasundari Rural Municipality, 71 women have received treatment for prolapse. According to Chandra Narayan Shah, head of the health branch of the rural municipality, the Sheer Memorial Hospital in Banepa, Kavre, has performed free surgery on the request of the rural municipality. "Currently, 16 women are being treated, and the target is to provide free surgery to 17 women within this financial year. So far, 71 mothers have received treatment for prolapse," said Shah. He said that the rural municipality has so far allocated a budget of 7 lakh rupees for this campaign, including transportation.
Tripurasundari rural municipality conducted a one-day health camp in all 6 wards, 521 women underwent health check-up. Many women were hiding their problems and symptoms due to shame or lack of information. According to village head Bhaktadhwaj Bohora, this problem is more common in women who marry at a young age, have many children, carry heavy loads and stay alone for long periods of time. Vice President Geethakumari Nepal said that the Executive Committee entrusted her with the Aama Bachau Abhiyaan in the hope that women would openly share their problems with women. He says that every year since the financial year 079/80, the problem of uterine prolapse has been identified and treated through the camp.
