'Juda Chepang community yatyajyo syauti, Chepang samrchit chhetra ghosna jahringtakni.' This is the sentence written in the Chepang language in the banner of the opening program of the second session of the Nepal Chepang Association of Bagmati Province which started in Bharatpur on Monday. Which means 'All Chepang will unite and declare Chepang protected area.' The speakers who spoke in the program also emphasized on this issue.

The chief guest of the opening program, Central President of Nepal Chepang Association, Govindram Chepang, said that only on Friday, Nepal Chepang Association submitted a request letter to the Vice Chairman of Niti Aayog of Bagmati province, demanding the declaration of a protected area. According to Govindram Chepang, even though Article 56 of the Constitution of Nepal provides such a provision, it has not yet been implemented. He is also a member of the Constituent Assembly.

Chepang is a marginalized tribal community. According to President Govindram, the total population of Chepang is 84 thousand 364, which is densely settled in the mountainous areas of Chitwan, Makwanpur, Dhading and Gorkha. There is a provision in the constitution to declare protected areas for the economic, social and cultural development of minorities. For this, a study should be conducted and a protected area should be decided based on that," he said.

Speaking at the inauguration program presided over by Bagmati State President of Nepal Chepang Association, Khusilal Chepang, former Minister of State of Bamati State Government, Sant Bahadur Chepang said that the state still keeps Chepang out of control in many ways. He expects that the awareness of the Chepang community who came to the implementation of the concept of protected area will be helped and many achievements will be achieved if they move forward together.
