193 people have been arrested in Makwanpur, which is known in the country for drug production, consumption and sale, till the March of the current financial year 2081/82.
According to the data of District Police Office Makwanpur, 193 people were arrested in the nine months of this financial year while 249 people were arrested in the previous financial year 2080/81. 193 people including 181 men and 12 women were arrested in 126 drug cases.
This fiscal year, while 169 Nepali men and 12 foreign men were arrested in drug cases, 11 Nepali women and one foreign woman were arrested from Makwanpur, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyamu Aryal, spokesperson of District Police Office Makwanpur informed.
He said that drug dealing and consumption in Makwanpur is in a terrible and scary situation. Spokesman Aryal said, "In the previous financial year, 249 people were arrested in 158 drug cases, and 193 people have been arrested in the current financial year." Aryal informed that the involvement of girls is also increasing.
A 14/15-year-old girl has also been arrested for drug trafficking and consumption. Makwanpur is in the "red zone" in the case of drugs, said Aryal, the spokesperson of District Police Office Makwanpur. The police said that most of the drug users in Makwanpur consume brown sugar. He said that there are not many opium users here.
'Medical drugs and brown sugar users are more', he added, 'opium consumption has not been found much. The consumption of ganja is also very low. The police are arresting people with drugs from different places of the district every day. According to the police, it is necessary for everyone to spread public awareness about drugs in their own way.
'Drugs cannot be reduced just because we want to. It is important to raise awareness from the family," said District Police Office Makwanpur Chief (Superintendent of Police) Vishwaraj Khadka. According to him, the police is carrying out drug busting, strict checking and public awareness campaign, but there has been no decrease in its production, transportation and consumption in Makwanpur.
