Shankar Thapalia has been re-elected as the chairman of CPN-UML Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality. The new leadership was elected on Saturday night in the second session of the Metropolitan Committee inaugurated by Prime Minister and UML President KP Sharma Oli on Friday. Thapalia became the chairman again by consensus.

A 95-member metropolitan committee has been elected under the chairmanship of Thapalia. Prakash Acharya, head of UML Chitwan's propaganda department informed that Dilip Neupane, Ashok Gyawali as secretary, Geeta Shrestha, Dayaram Chaudhary as deputy secretaries were selected as the vice president of the committee. 

Similarly, Home Kumar Sharma Acharya has been elected as the Chairman of the Accounts Committee. While inaugurating the convention, the chief guest Oli instructed to make maximum efforts to select the leadership by consensus. His instructions were to hold an election only if there was no consensus. UML politburo member and Chitwan district in-charge Devi Gyawali administered the oath to the newly elected metropolitan committee on Saturday.
