The field is barren because of lack of water: looking for a spring, confused

In Bahrbise Municipality-9 Ramche, the Lovlagda areas above Archle have become barren and Urathlagda. Years ago, this time was decorated with mustard and vegetable plants. There is no water even in the nearby Andheri river due to lack of sufficient rains.

Lal Bahadur Poudel of Bahrbise Municipality-9 lamented that as the old water sources are gradually drying up, the locals have kept their fields barren due to lack of water.

'The main reason for keeping it barren is the lack of water, on top of that, it has not rained for a long time, the situation is becoming dire because of the lack of drinking water here, after the water source has dried up, we have to wade through the river bed and look for a spring,' he said. Due to the lack of water, the vegetables grown in the fields here are about to dry up and spoil.

Locals living in the hope that rain will fall and their crops will grow green have now reached a desperate situation. More than 40 plantations of land have been kept barren in the upper part of Arch. There, Sahele and the villages above it have the same terrible condition of water. The lands of Sahele Khet, Dandabari, Setidervi temple area are now dry and almost barren.

Before the earthquake and aftershocks of 072, remembering that the place was decorated with millet, corn and fruit plants, it feels like a dream to the farmer Chakradhwaj Tiwari. "Before the earthquake, there were dozens of houses here. Arkshak Sahele was a house in the slum. After the earthquake, when the reconstruction started, the settlement was dispersed due to water problems. All of them were forced to build houses in Urbarkhet for water and other facilities," Tiwari said.

14 families like Sahele, Archale, Dhodeni, Saonbesi are living in water. The president of Janmukhi Farmers' Group, Bahrbise 9's Sarjan Khadka, said that she was surprised when she requested the public representatives with the problem of irrigation water. "It is not possible to earn money in Dashamure Phat here, some have not been able to cultivate due to lack of water and irrigation," she said.

She said that 29 families here are suffering due to lack of irrigation and water. According to Krishi Gyan Kendra Kavre, due to the problem of having to rely on sky water, most of the arable land has become barren. Most of the arable land around the highway of Chautara, the headquarters, is barren.

Farmers have kept the land barren even in Jalvere section, western Melamchi section, which is considered fertile land for paddy. Batase, the condition of the land in Syaule is also the same. According to Krishi Gyan Kendra, 73 thousand 710 hectares of land is suitable for cultivation in the district.

Of this, only 47,400 hectares of land is cultivated. According to this data, 36 percent of arable land in the district is barren. Currently, 8 percent of the cultivated land has year-round irrigation, 25 percent has seasonal irrigation, and a total of 33 percent has irrigation facilities. For some years now, there has been an increase in the barrenness of arable land in the district.
