Khairhani municipality is going to give nutrition subsidy to underprivileged children. Children from underprivileged families who have completed 6 months and are 3 years old will get this subsidy.
Children are going to be subsidized on the basis of an estimated amount of Rs 40 equivalent to one egg and one glass of milk per day. According to the municipality, 1,200 rupees per month will be provided to the bank accounts of the parents of the children who will receive the subsidy.
The Mayor of Khairhani Municipality Sasikumar Khania informed that this plan has been started to improve the nutrition of children from extremely poor families living permanently in Khairhani. Mayor Khania informed that 97 underprivileged children have been selected for nutrition subsidy for this year. He also said that there will be strict monitoring to ensure that the subsidy amount going to the parents' account is not misused.
Deputy Mayor Kavita Upreti said that 80 percent of children's mental development by two years and 90 percent by five years and nutrition is very important in mental and physical development, nutritional subsidy was started. The municipality also conducted nutritional status and health check-ups of the beneficiary children and an orientation program for the parents on the importance of nutrition.
This year, the municipality has said that all necessary preparations have been completed to provide subsidy money to 97 underprivileged children selected this year. Bhojraj Khanal, Head of Health Branch of Khairhani Municipality, said that about 1.5 million rupees will be spent annually for this subsidy and more than 2.0 million rupees will be spent annually from next year.
