Collective labor donation to build houses for disabled and single women

A collective labor donation campaign has been conducted to build a house for disabled and single women in Jaretar located in Ward No. 12 of Panchkhaal Municipality of Kavrepalanchok.

Habitat for Humanity Nepal and Shanti Jan Adarsh ​​Seva Kendra started the joint initiative through this campaign with the aim of providing safe housing to the women of the underprivileged sections of the society.

On the occasion of Women's Day, which is celebrated on March 8, various programs are held throughout the month of March for the empowerment of women. On the same occasion, Panchkhaal municipality of Kavre located in ward number 12 of Zaretar's  A public donation program was organized on Tuesday to build a house for 45-year-old Miley Danuwar (single woman) and 28-year-old Chandamaya Danuwar (physically disabled).  Under the

public service campaign, representatives of Habitat for Humanity Nepal and Shanti Jan Adarsh ​​Seva Kendra, people's representatives of Panchkhal Municipality, local women, social workers have volunteered to donate. In order to make the construction work effective, material management, labor coordination and technical assistance have also been provided for house construction.

Communication and Outreach Senior Specialist of Habitat for Humanity Nepal, Sachi Mulmi, informed that a budget of 10 lakhs is estimated for the construction of each house. According to him, for the construction of housing with toilets, 75 percent will be built from Habitat and 25 percent from the cost of public assistance. She informed that along with locals, volunteers from Japan, UAE, USA, Australia and other countries will donate their labor. 

As a result, the foundation digging work has started on Tuesday with Shramdan. According to him, there is a work schedule to complete the construction of two houses and hand them over by the month of June. Miley Danuwar expressed her happiness that she has been living in a roof covered with zinc leaves for years and now that the organization is going to build a house, she will now be able to live in a safe house.

'I felt like my life was going by,' she said, 'I never thought that an organization would build a house like this, it seems like a dream, I have no position to build it, no source of income, no money, it's hard to make a living, how can you build a house?' She thanked the organization that helped build a house for her and said, 'You have helped us so much, all we can give them is thanks.'

A family of 10 was living in a two-room terrace. Chandamaya, who has been living in a cramped room, is happy now that she will have a new home. His left arm and lower part of his body does not move. She cannot speak clearly. She was watching the scene of digging the foundation to build a new house. A new energy could be seen in him while watching that scene. Happiness was shining on his face. "Now I can live in a new house," she said happily, "I am very happy, thank you to everyone who helped to build a house." According to him, it is believed that this campaign carried out in collaboration with local communities, organizations and municipalities will help women to lead a safe and dignified life. 

Safe housing for 19 very poor families of Panchkhal 

In Ward No. 12 of Panchkhaal municipality, a house is being built for 12 people from extremely poor families with the support of Habitat for Nepal and Panchkhaal Municipality and the coordination of Shanti Jan Adarsh ​​Seva Kendra.

Similarly, Shanti Jan Adarsh ​​Seva Kendra, chairman of Shanti Janadarsa Seva Kendra, informed that 3 houses in Ward No. 6, 3 houses in Ward No. 10 and 1 house in Ward No. 3 are being constructed for extremely poor families. He said that 90 percent of the construction work of 15 houses has been completed.

According to him, in the coming days, we have planned to conduct such public charity programs in other wards as well. He said that safe housing will be constructed not only for disabled and single women, but also for other groups of disadvantaged communities. Gyan Bahadur Danuwar, Ward President of Panchkhaal Municipality Ward No. 12, expressed his gratitude to both organizations for their support by building safe housing for the extremely poor families of the ward.
