'Mayor's health program' for senior citizens in Bharatpur

Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality has started the second phase of 'Mayor Health Program with the Community' from Monday. Under this program last year, 17,000 senior citizens aged 68 years and above received health check-up services. Renu Dahal, Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, informed that health check-up services will be provided to about 12,000 citizens between the ages of 60 and 68 this year.

"We will conduct blood pressure, blood sugar and kidney tests targeting non-communicable diseases in people of this age," said Deepak Subedi, head of Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality's health department. He said that in all 29 wards of the metropolitan city, they will go to the households of about 600 villages and check the health of senior citizens. For this, Subedi says, he will take the help of Tol Development Committee organizations and women's health volunteers.

Dr. Bhojraj Adhikari, health expert advisor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, said that 23 percent of those tested last year had high blood pressure and 17 percent had diabetes. Dr. Adhikari said that 13 percent of new people with high blood pressure were detected. Dr. Adhikari said that the main causes of kidney disease are problems like stress and sugar.

We will also tell the community about the healthy lifestyle along with the test. "We will tell the community about the dangers of smoking and drinking," said Dr. Adhikari. Head of Public Health Office Dinesh Rupakheti said last February when the Health Office tested 4,748 people across Chitwan. He informed that blood pressure problem was found in 100,677 people. Bishnuraj Mahato, the ward president of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-22, said that the local government is going to the citizens' homes through health services.
