The main festival of the Thakali community, which is a mustang, is 'Toranl'. During this festival, which falls during the full moon of Phagu, people are entertained by playing bows.
The archery game of 'Toranl' was also seen in Bharatpur on Tuesday . The Thakali community, who migrated from Mustang and lived here, performed the Dhanuwan game referring to Toranl. Leaders of the Thakali community say that they are worshiped as ancestors in Toranla .
``Women wake up at 3 am and take a bath and perform puja by taking the name of the father,'' said Om Gauchan, advisor of Thakali Seva Samiti Bharatpur Samaj. In the afternoon men enjoy playing bow and arrow. Gauchan said that women also have their own game. Tornal is celebrated for three days . It is believed that the more you have fun and eat together in three days, the more happy your father will be and he will bless you .
Thakali Seva Samiti Bharatpur Samaj president Kamala Gauchan said that the toranl will start from the day before Fagu Purnima and will continue till the next day of Purnima. She told that it is customary to sell the material of worship on the fourth day while in Pahad Mustang in Kaligandaki.
There are 37 houses of Thakali community in Bharatpur Metropolitan City and Gaindakot area of Nawalpur. We are like 100 people in 37 houses in this area. In Muglin, 30/35 houses are also poor. We have not forgotten our traditional festival rituals, said President Gauchan. Counselor Gauchan Tornal says that it is like the main festival of his community and the New Year. He said that after October-October, they will reach home for the heavy rains that fall in the Terai.
'First, it was customary to go down to the Terai after the beginning of October for business . In the past 50 years, the practice of migration has increased," he said. Thakali, who came to Chitwan, is engaged in hotel, grocery shop, contract and other businesses. Gauchan said that although it falls during Phagu Purnima, the custom of playing colors in Tornal was not there before and recently, colors have also been played.
