The National Poultry Disease Research Laboratory here tested the samples collected from 16 districts including Chitwan and found more problems with bacteria and viruses. These infections are seen due to lack of biosecurity.

The laboratory had examined the carcasses of 2,175 chickens belonging to 1,285 farmers in the six months since July. According to the head of the office, Vijay Kumar Shrestha, due to bacteria in the environment, E.coli 295, Gambaro virus 168, CRD bacteria 154, Dhusi (microtoxin) 112 and Salmonella bacteria were found in 72 cases.

Similarly, SITIS (water retention in the stomach) was seen in 59, CCRD bacteria in 41, Fowl Cholera (chicken cholera) in 25, Coxi Diosis (red spotting) in 19, Leprosy in 14 and Ranikhet in eight cases.

During this period, H9 was observed in four cages of broiler chickens. He said that biological security should be adopted as 100% death is due to these diseases. Hundred percent of chickens die due to Ranikhet, bird flu etc.

Gambaro 20 percent, H9 will kill 50 percent of the chickens, he said, and advised the farmers to be cautious in time. He says that biological security should be strictly followed while taking materials such as feed, water, medicine, chaff and sending eggs out to the farm.

Since there is an anti-infection drug available in the market, people and vehicles coming to the farm must be completely de-infested. According to Shrestha, poultry farmers all over the country should pay attention as there is a high risk of bird flu as the weather is changing. This office takes samples of birds from all over the country and tests them.

By January of this year, he informed that samples of birds reared in 16 districts of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces have been tested. Many chickens are reared in Chitwan and the office is located here, so most of the samples are from Chitwan.
