A cultural program will be held at Devghat with the aim of revealing the originality of the traditional dance of the Magar community called Kauraha.
Devghat Magar Utthan Samaj of Tanahun Devghat Rural Municipality is going to hold a program on Thursday on the occasion of the 43rd Magar Foundation Day. Acting president of the society Amrita Thapamagar said that the whole community is worried because the real juice of Kauraha, which carries the cultural identity of the Magar race, is disappearing.
We feel that the real juice of Kauraha is disappearing. For this reason, we are going to display the original costumes in the program along with the original Kaurahas of different groups as a non-competition to pass the Kauraha to the new generation as well,'' said Kawa President Amrita Thapa Magar at the press conference held at Devghat on Wednesday. Along with this, she informed that national duo Kalakar and local Kalakar will also present their art in the program. Kauraha is also called Kanraha by the Magar community.
In the crocodile language, Kan means us and Raha means we have come. The meaning of Kanaraha is that we have come. It was said that the Kauraha, which consists of young men and women singing and dancing to the beat of khainjadi and other instruments, could not be danced for seven days and seven nights in earlier times, said Ashiq Ranamargar, a member of the society. The Magar community has a tradition of performing different dances on different days. He said that Kauraha will be danced from February to August.
The organizer has informed that six groups of five wards of Devghat Rural Municipality and one more group will show the Kauraha. Before the start of the main program on Thursday afternoon, there will be a rally with a cultural tableau of the Magar community from Dasdhunga Bridge to the venue of the event, Naya Basti Hatbazar Prangan at eight in the morning. The organizers have appealed to participate in the rally in traditional original Magar dress.
Amrita Thapa Magar, executive chairman of the Magar community, who lives around 6,000 in Devghat Rural Municipality, said. We are a socially and culturally rich community. Although the western mountainous geography of Nepal is our main place of residence, now we are scattered abroad. No matter where we go, we have not forgotten our religion, language and culture. However, we have realized that there is a lack in this," she said. She said that such cultural gatherings in the villages would bring awareness and that the Magar community would collect financial support from house to house to organize the program.
