In the third week of January, the Rolwaling snow range, which is covered with snow, is covered with smoke from the wildfires in the Himalayan region. Since Saturday, the fire in the area above Sikpaswar of Gaurishankar Rural Municipality-7 under the Gaurishankar conservation area has not been brought under control.
At this time, the forest, which is covered with snow, has been burning since the first week of January. The smoke from the forest fire in the Gaurishankar conservation area has covered the rolling snow range along with Gaurishankar Himal till Monday. This year, the mountains covered with snow have become blacker from the first week of January.
The wild animals that came down to escape the cold during the snowy season have been hit by fire. Tulsi Prasad Dahal, head of conservation area, said that the fire has been burning in the hills near the mountain for three days. He said that the area is also the habitat of Ratopanda and Jharal.
'How the fire started is being investigated,' he said, 'People from the local sub-committee went to control the fire, but the team returned after it was not possible to put it out due to geographical difficulties.'
He said that the fire went out of control. He said that the fire may have started due to human carelessness in that area. "There is no high-tension line of the electricity project in that area. We have asked the police to investigate how the fire started," he said There has been no snowfall even after the third week. During the season of snowfall, fires rarely occur in the forests of the upper reaches.
Chief Dahal said that fires have been raging in this area for three years. He said that there have been two fires this year alone. But due to lack of snowfall this year, the forests of the high Himalayan region have started to burn from the first week of January. He said that the forest fire in the upper area of Bhotekosi-2 Liping, bordering with China in Sindhupalchok, which is within the
protection zone, has not yet been brought under control. He said that 2 forests towards Dolakha and one forest in Sindhupalchok area were burnt. Because of this, wild animals are also affected by the fire.
'Fires have started in the high mountain areas when it should snow,' he said He said. Since there is no snowfall, when the local people are burning razors in the forest, there is an increase in forest fires due to strong winds in the Himalayan region.
