The enumeration of water birds that migrate in winter to spend the winter in Kasarapur of Chitwan National Park has been completed. According to the results released on Saturday, 55 species of water birds were found in the area, said Vasu Bidari, the program coordinator who led the count.

Rapti River from Lothar to Kasara and east of Kasara to Lothar is counted in Seemsar, Taltalaiya and fish ponds.

Last year, 53 species of water birds were found in this area. Bidari says that black-headed Ganga chill and King Ganga chill, which were not seen last year, were seen this time. Volunteers of the Bird Education Society and the Nepal Ornithologists Association were involved in bird counting.

Last Monday and Tuesday, the number of waterfowl migrating in winter was counted in this area of Chitwan. 63 volunteers were deployed in it.

In terms of species, the situation of migratory birds has been seen to be somewhat satisfactory. In the 2023 census, 49 species of birds were found. Before that, there are statistics of 54 species of birds found. According to Bidari, an ornithologist, the species and number of birds varies depending on the diet and environment.

In this count, the largest number of ducks have been found. Bidari informed that 4 thousand 107 chakhewa were found. He said that the enumerators found a total of 7,150 water birds. Chakhewa has been found less than last year. As less than 300 chakhewa were found, the number of water crows increased. Bidari said that the enumerators counted 14 thousand 26 birds by including other birds.

These birds have been counted outside Nepal since 1967. Tika Giri, another ornithologist, said that it also started in Nepal in 1987. He was included in the calculation from the same year. Another team of Nepal Ornithologists Association has been deployed to count birds from Kasara to West Rapti River in Chitwan, Riukhola in Madi and Narayani area around Divyanagar and Taltalaiya in these areas. The result of the calculation has not yet arrived.
