Tree roots are not used much. 36-year-old Purushottam Nepal of Banepa Municipality-9 gave an example of how the roots, which are being wasted as firewood in the village, can be used as a source of income. He has dried the roots and trunks of the trees on one side of the yard and cleaned the soil and weeds stuck to the roots and stored them in the warehouse.

Purushottam and other workers are making a table at one end of the godown by shaping the roots into an artistic shape. On the other side, only the finishing work is left by placing the table glass made from tree roots . Purushottam is working hard to finalize it .

Purushottam prefers to do something different and new. He saw some possibility in the roots of the tree with the idea of doing the latest work. He has been working in the field of carpentry for 16 years and decided to do something new with wood, so he adopted a creative style. He was supported in this by the University Grants Program.

While doing postgraduate studies at Kavre Multipurpose Campus, he saw the notice of 'Entrepreneurship Support Program' issued by the University Grants Commission and filled the form to participate in the program. He was also selected. According to the completion of the grant agreement process with 60% of his own investment and 40% of the Commission's investment, he started the work of making furniture materials from tree roots with an investment of about 10 million. It's been 9 months since he started working professionally.

He said that making materials from roots is a bit more difficult and time consuming than normal wood. It looks new, but the work is equally difficult. In the beginning, it is difficult to find the roots, the process of purchasing the roots, which has to be approved by the Forest Office and the consumer committee, is also a bit more difficult, he said, "In some places, you have to use a excavator to extract the roots, they have to be cut, shaped and dried in the sun for about 6 months and then It can be trimmed and artistically shaped. After filling it with color and finishing with glass, the final form is ready.'

According to him, it is prepared especially during winter because it needs to be dried in the sun. Purushottam is now preparing to make 15 sets of tables and chairs from tree roots. He said that it will take about 1 month to prepare a set of table-chairs.

Now he has brought roots from Nagarkot . He buys the roots of a tree for 200 to 5000 rupees. Its value is according to nature. The price is determined by the amount of material that can be made from it, in some cases, up to 2 tables are made from one piece, while in some cases, even if you bring 2 roots, not even one is made. He also has skills in making tea-tables, out-doors, seminars, roof-top tables .

"If you have the skill of woodworking, you can make many materials in a creative style, a table can be made attractive by filling it with many arts," he says. Two workers are helping him. He thinks that if the demand in the market increases, he will also add more workers. He also plans to provide training related to this skill as he wants to give it to others. He said that the price of

is a bit high because it looks new and attractive and requires a lot of effort. According to him, the price of Jara table and simple chair set is above 80,000 . He also said that the price of Zara's table-chair set will be up to 2 lakh rupees. "We are at the beginning stage," he said, "because it is new, it will take some time to find the market, and we plan to expand it according to demand." Many people come to his warehouse to inquire about his work. .
