With the incessant rains on October 11th and 12th, a belay bridge is going to be constructed in Hevikhola, which was damaged when the Kulekhani hydropower project dam was opened.

When Kulekhani was filled, when the gate was opened to stop the overflow, the bridge of Heavy Khola in the lower part of Kulekhani Dam located in Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-2 was damaged. Due to the festivals at that time, the traffic was diverted from the river. At present, vehicles are crossing the heavy stream from the said diversion. After concluding that the dam-damaged bridge cannot be operated immediately, the provincial government has decided to construct a belay bridge.

The meeting of the Disaster Management Executive Committee of the Wagmati State Government has decided to immediately put a belay bridge at that place, said Surajchandra Lamichhane, the spokesperson of the government and Minister of Internal Affairs and Law. According to him, the meeting has taken a decision to remove the belay bridge located in Mandu river located in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-6 and put it in that place immediately. With the construction of a concrete bridge in Mandu Khol, the belay bridge has not been used.

'Before the coming rains, a belay bridge will be installed at the place where the bridge is. For that, the ministry has already advanced internal preparations," said Minister Lamichhane. A meeting attended by chief minister Bahadur Singh Lama and heads of various security agencies has decided to start the necessary process to take Belibridge there.

This bridge has been important for using Fakhel and Sisneri roads as a short way to enter Kathmandu from Hetaunda. On a daily basis, more than 3,000 motorcycles and small vehicles travel on this road.

Suman Shrestha, the ward chairman of Indrasarovar rural municipality-2, pointed out that even though the vehicular traffic has been eased for the time being by installing a belay bridge, there is a need for a concrete bridge to solve the long-term problem. It is necessary to build a concrete bridge in Hevikhola for long-term use. Taking into account the possible damage caused by the Kulekhani dam, a concrete bridge should be built now, he said.
