137 kg of ganja seized in Makwanpur

Makwanpur police have seized 137 kg of ganja. Manhari rural municipality-5 of Makwanpur was carrying a heavy load of ganja towards Dillipur.

The police stationed across the Rapti river in Dillipur after information that porters in a group of 10/12 people were carrying ganja from Raksirang village on Saturday morning. Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyamu Aryal said that the porters ran away after seeing the police. According to him, 137 kg of marijuana has been recovered in 13 sacks.

'We are looking for those who left the bag of ganja and ran away,' said the police officer of Manhari, IPR. Smugglers buy marijuana from Raksirang and take it to India through various channels of Manhari Gapa. 

According to the Makwanpur police, 3,060 kg of ganja, 30 kg of hashish and 239 grams of brown heroin have been seized from July to 6th of the current year. Deputy Superintendent of Police and Spokesperson Shyamu Aryal said that Makwanpur police arrested 69 Nepali and Indian citizens on charges of drug dealing. "During this period, 63 Nepalis, including 2 women, and 5 Indian citizens, including a woman, have been arrested on charges of drug dealing," he said.

According to the data of Makwanpur District Police Office, last year, police arrested 250 people, including 21 women, on the charge of drug trafficking and filed a case. During that period, Makwanpur police seized 3,962 kg of ganja, 13 kg of opium, 78 grams of heroin and 150 kg of hashish.
