Brothers met after 44 years

Lal Bahadur and Shanta Bahadur of Melung lost their mother and father when they were young. Shanta Bahadur was only 11 years old when his brother Lal Bahadur left home. Another brother Ramesh was with him. Ramesh was only 2 years old at that time. Lal Bahadur did not return home. When Shanta Bahadur was 15 years old, he left with his brother Ramesh.

Shanta Bahadur used to wash dishes in a hotel in Kathmandu and take care of his brother. But brother Ramesh also disappeared at the age of 9. Shanta Bahadur was distraught but did not return to the village. He started supporting himself by working in Kathmandu. Lal Bahadur visited many villages while working. Finally, his stay was sustained in a house of the then Pawti Village Development Committee. Now he has been living in the house of Kosismani Neupane of Pawati under Melung Rural Municipality-1 for about 30 years.

Lal Bahadur did not have citizenship. Lal Bahadur is a bit slow. It has been many years since they tried to make him a citizen because he would get social security allowance in his old age,'' Neupane said, 'although his address was known, he could not be identified because he had no relatives. While looking for relatives, it was discovered that Lal Bahadur has a brother.

Lal Bahadur is about to turn 70 now, Shanta Bahadur is 55 years old. The brothers met after 44 years. Lal Bahadur became a citizen after Shanta Bahadur signed his identity. "We looked for 2/4 years to see if my brother who left us as a child would return," said Shanta Bahadur, "When my brother did not return, I also took my brother. We did not return to the village. I am happy to meet my brother after a long time.

Another brother Ramesh also met Shanta Bahadur three years ago. Lal Bahadur was surprised that he also had a younger brother. Shanta Bahadur said that he may have forgotten some things due to his weak and sluggish memory. The younger one has only heard that he has a brother. "I still don't believe it," he said, "Now I will bring the younger one to meet my brother."
